Big turnout in Salalah in the first few days of Khareef

Muscat: Thousands of people have already visited Salalah this year in the first few days of Khareef season, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
In a statement online, NCSI put the recorded number of tourists between June 21 and 25 at 5,896. According to the Centre, Omanis accounted for just under half of all visitors.
The Ministry of Tourism operates specialist tourist information centres during the Autumn season to help visitors access the services in Dhofar governorate.
Marwan Al Gassani, Director of Tourism Promotion Department of Directorate General of Tourism of Dhofar Governorate said: “These centres can be found at the land ports, Salalah Airport, and in the city entertainment centre which hosts the Salalah Tourism Festival annually. The centres provide visitors and tourists with maps and brochures that include information on hotels, apartments, restaurants, markets, and heritage and other tourist destinations in the governorate.”
Temporary tour guides
The Ministry has also recently employed a number of temporary tour guides to work in information centres during the period of the tourist season after they were nominated by some specialised colleges.
Al Gassani added: “These student guides have passed interviews and a specialised training programme has been implemented for them in tourist guidance. During the programme they have been provided with information and data so that they will be familiar with all the local knowledge that the visitor may need.”
The Ministry has recently issued a number of publications and brochures, including a tourist map of Dhofar for 2019 and guides to seeing all that Dhofar Governorate has to offer in either a short stay of four days or a more detailed one in a week. These publications include all the information that tourists may need when visiting the governorate as well as a rich and varied tourist programme.
