Drones to help Sohar port in infrastructure analysis

Muscat: For the first time in the history of the Sultanate’s ports, Oman Logistics (Asyad) will use a remote-controlled drone to examine the port of Sohar for maintenance and improvement.
The aircraft will use aerial photography to detect damage to the port’s infrastructure, including seaports, marine docks, and ship-collision barriers and analysis will be carried out using artificial intelligence techniques.
The experiment is aimed at measuring the possibility of conducting high speed and efficient maintenance without any human intervention.
In a statement online, Asyad said: “The importance of this experiment stems from the fact that technology can be used to improve Omani port services. Drones will be used to analyse image data using artificial intelligence algorithms.
Raising the level
“This will improve inspection services and maintain the port infrastructure with the aim of raising the level of security and safety service when conducting operations.”
The experimental testing was conducted by drone specialists HAITCH-D who launched a live experience of the use of drone aircraft in the presence of the Asyad technology team and the executive leaders in the ports of the Sultanate, in cooperation with Sohar Port.
