Oman to host meeting on medical device use

Muscat: A new meeting with over 300 health experts from all over Asia is expected to increase awareness of how medical devices and products should and should not be used.

Dr. Mohammed bin Hamdan Al Rubiai, Director General of Pharmaceutical Affairs & Drug Control at the Ministry of Health, said the meeting may increase "the awareness level among health staff on the importance of monitoring the problems associated with the usage of medical devices, supplies and products.

"We hope that this meeting will identify the perfect ways to train healthcare providers on the proper usage of medical devices, supplies and products in order to ensure the maximum utilization of technology in the health field," he added.

Oman is set to host the 24th Asian Harmonization Working Party annual meeting, which is expected to have over 300 attendees.

A statement by the Ministry of Health read: “The Directorate General of Pharmaceutical Affairs & Drug Control (DGPADC) will host next November the 24th Asian Harmonization Working Party (AHWP) annual meeting for Medical Devices & Supplies.

"Around 300 participants are expecting to attend this meeting from the member states in the Asian group (31 countries). Other participants from a number of European, African and American countries will also attend the meeting in view of its importance in enhancing and improving the health systems of medical devices and supplies, " the statement added.
