Over  half of Omanis in private jobs earn less than OMR500

Muscat: Around 51.8 per cent of Omanis working in the private sector get monthly wages ranging from OMR325 to OMR500, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Out of a total of 258,536 Omanis working in the private sector, 133,976 earned between OMR325 and OMR500.
The statistics also revealed that the number of Omanis who earn salaries of more than OMR2,000 stood at 13,670, or 5 per cent of the total number of workers.
The NCSI reported that the unemployment rate for Omanis between the ages of 25 and 29 dropped 13.6 per cent over the last month.
In addition, 32.3 per cent of Omanis registered with the Public Authority of Social Insurance (PASI) were working in Muscat governorate by the end of May.
More than 27,000 Omanis have been hired from January to May, according to an official from the Ministry of Manpower.
The government is making strong efforts to provide employment opportunities and uses its various departments to search for work in the private sector that is suited to the qualifications of Omani job seekers, according to officials.
According to MOM, the jobs were concentrated in three main sectors; construction, sales and distribution and industry. These accounted for 58 per cent of all the Omanis employed this year.
60,000 Omani workers were employed in the construction sector by the end of April, followed by 37,000 workers in the retail sector.
The tourism sector is known for being the largest employer of Omani youth, however, the sector only managed to hire 6 per cent of the total number of employees this year, while the logistics sector employed about 5 per cent of all Omanis employed, the Ministry reported.
