Plane blows out tyres while landing in Newark

New York: A United Airlines flight blew out some of its tires while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in the state of New Jersey, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

"Preliminary indication is that tires blew out on the left main landing gear as the aircraft was landing, and the Boeing 757 veered to the left side of the pavement," the FAA statement read.

It also stated that flights had been delayed at the airport as officials worked to remove the plane from the runway.

An earlier statement by the aviation authority said that the plane landed at 1 p.m. local time (1700 GMT) on a runway at the airport, west of New York City.

No injuries have been reported in the incident, which is being investigated by the FAA.

A statement issued by the airport later confirmed that flight activity had resumed.

"Flight activity at EWR has resumed following an earlier incident, but delays are expected to continue. Passengers should call their carrier for info."
