Cyclone Vayu veers away from India coast

Muscat: Cyclone Vayu, which was set to hit the coast of Gujarat, a state in India, suddenly changed course on Thursday morning.

It is now unlikely that it would make landfall in Gujarat. However, effects of the cyclone, high wind speeds and rainfall are still being felt in coastal areas of the Indian state.

The Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) announced that the centre of the tropial cyclone is now located around 1,100 kilometers from Oman's coast and is moving in a north-westerly direction.

PACA had previously ruled out any effects of the cyclone over Oman till Friday.

Meanwhile, around 2,50,000 people have been evacuated in Gujarat and officials are continously monitoring the situation.
