Medical equipment to be listed with Oman's health ministry

Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Health has begun implementing steps geared towards signing up all medical equipment and devices with the ministry as a regulatory measure to protect citizens and residents of Oman.

As a first step, all companies that manufacture and import this type of equipment have been asked to submit information about their products to the Ministry in the next half-year. In the future, companies will not be able to import unlisted medical devices.

A statement issued said, “In line with the Directorate General of Pharmaceutical Affairs and Drug Controls plan to regulate equipment and medical devices in the Sultanate’s market, a circular was issued to all companies dealing with these items (manufacturing/importing)."

“The circular requests that these companies list all their products in the respective form and submit this information to the Directorate within a six month period."

“This is considered an initial step, which will be followed by the complete registration of all these items at the Ministry of Health,” the statement added.

According to the ministry, this is “in consideration of the need for gradual application of regulation to medical divides to meet the needs of all concerned for stakeholders."
