Inflation in Oman up 1.13 per cent in August

The general prices index recorded a decrease by 0.02 per cent during August 2018 compared to the previous month.

Muscat: Inflation in Oman recorded an increase of 1.13 per cent in August 2018 compared to the same month of the previous year.

This increase was attributed to the price of transport group by 6.24 per cent, education group by 4.9 per cent, miscellaneous goods and services groups by 0.76 per cent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.6 per cent, restaurants and hotels group by (0.59 per cent.

On the other hand, the price of health group decreased by 3.06 per cent, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.17 per cent, clothing & footwear group by 0.94 per cent, furnishings, household equipment & routing household maintenance group by 0.73 per cent, recreation and culture group by 0.35 per cent, communication group by 0.31 per cent, tobacco group by 0.14 per cent, during the month of August 2018 compared to the same month of the previous year

Decrease



The general prices index recorded a decrease by 0.02 per cent during August 2018 compared to the previous month, due to the decrease price of clothing & footwear group by 0.22 per cent, transport group by 0.15 per cent, communications group by 0.02 per cent, recreation and culture group by 0.09 per cent, miscellaneous goods and services by 0.04. On the other hand, the price increased in foods & non-alcoholic beverages group by 0.06 per cent, due to the price increase of vegetables by 1.27 per cent, fruits by 0.9 per cent, milk, cheese & eggs, oils & fats groups by 0.12 per cent each other.

The price increase was 0.37 per cent in restaurants and hotels group; 0.01 per cent in furnishings, household equipment & routine household maintenance group.

The index recorded an increase of 2.09 per cent in North Al Batinah, Dhofar by 2.01 per cent, Dakhiliya by 1.13 per cent, Muscat by 0.7 per cent, Dhahira by 0.61 per cent, South and North A’Sharqiya by 0.57 per cent, and the Governorate of Al Burami by 0.13 per cent, in August 2018 compared to the same month of last year. -
