Oman Desert Marathon night race sees tough competition

Bidiya: The night race of Oman Desert Marathon in the Wilayat of Bidiya saw tough competition.

The event comes within the activities of North Al Sharqiyah Winter 2024 and is organised under the patronage of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in partnership with a number of government departments and private sector establishments.

In the second stage of the marathon on Tuesday, Ghaith Al Saidi (Oman) secured the first place with a timing of 5 hours 2 minutes in the 47-km race followed by Saleh Al Saidi (Oman) in  5 hours 10 minutes while Rasheed Al Marabti (Morocco) secured third place in 5 hours  and 11 minutes. Said bin Mohammed Al Hajri, General Supervisor of the marathon for this year thanked international participation at the event organised in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

He said that the eleventh edition of the marathon contributed to showcasing the tourism potentials in the wilayat of Bidiya and conveyed a clear image on the significance of the Sultanate’s hosting this event.

The marathon would conclude by the fourth stage for a distance of 21 kilometres which is expected to see tough competition besides the announcement of the winners of the top places in the overall rating in the marathon, he added.

It is worth mentioning that the marathon comprised four stages for 165 kilometres from Al Wasil Village in the Wilayat of Bidiya and saw the competition among over 700 participants from other countries including Morocco, Spain, France, Ukraine, Italy, Germany, Poland, Britain, Belgium and Switzerland along with the participants from Oman.
