Bodybuilding: Haitham Al Zadjali to participate in ‘Mr Olympia’ Championships in Las Vegas

MUSCAT: Oman's world champion, Haitham Sadiq Al Zadjali, will leave for Las Vegas, United States to participate in the ‘Mr Olympia’ championships which will be held on September 14 and 15.
Haitham Sadiq Al Zadjali, a gold medallist at the World Championships in Spain in the 85kg category beat 40 other competitors from around the world last year.
Haitham Al Zadjali is sponsored by Eat Smart restaurant, is accompanied by Mohammed bin Abdul-Karim Al Zadjali, Omani national champion, and national coach, who will oversee the preparation of Haitham Al Zadjali.
Mohammad Al Zadjali said “The due to the lack of financial support which was promised to Haitham Al Zadjali failed to bear fruit as a result despite representing the Sultanate at the highest level of competition.” |
“The team is currently camping in Kuwait under the supervision of Coach Abdullah Al Otaibi, and will return to Muscat on Friday”, he added.
“The team will leave for the United States to participate in the Classic Physique championships, where the winner will be adjudged ‘Mr Olympia’. We are hoping the Haitham Sadiq Al Zadjali will will and once again raise the Sultanate’s flag at the championships.
Touching upon the lack of financial support whether it would affect the preparations of Haitham Al Zadjali the world champion, Mohammed Al Zadjali said, “The fact that the Eat Smart restaurant has come forward to sponsor him is a positive sign. The Bodybuilding Committee who had approached for funds told us that they would raise the issue with the Ministry of Sports Affairs but unfortunately nothing materialised.” He further added that the Bodybuilding Committee commented that it only supports amateurs and not professionals.”
“Oman is a sports loving country and they have followed very minutely all off Haitham Sadiq Al Zadjali’s achievements during the past tournaments where he has surpassed all expectations by winning gold in Spain, but on his return he has not received any recognition like the other sportsmen do in other countries.”
In March 2018, Al Zadjali won the first place in the professional championship which was held in New Zealand.
