Stop private tuition, principals of Indian schools told

Muscat: Teachers working for Indian schools in Oman must not engage in private tuition, and will be dealt with severely if caught.
A member of the board governing Indian schools has written to the principals of Indian schools in Oman, requesting them to shut down any private tuition run by the teachers of their schools.
The letter penned by education advisor M P Vinoba, which has been accessed by the Times of Oman alleges that despite them being illegal under both Omani and Indian law, teachers of Indian schools continue to give private tuitions in the Sultanate.
“The board of directors has taken a serious view of this issue since any violation of the law by the teachers of Indian schools will not only affect the reputation of the Indian school system, but also put the administration in an embarrassing situation in front of the authorities,” Vinoba added.
He requested the principals of Indian schools to make sure that none of their teachers gave private tuition or risk action against the erring educators. Vinoba also demanded a compliance report from the principals.
“All principals are requested to ensure that teachers of their respective schools, right from kindergarten to class XII are not engaged in giving private tuition and private teaching activities with immediate effect. This is applicable to teachers of all subjects, including physical education, fine arts, dance, music etc.”
“It may be brought to the notice of the teachers that severe disciplinary action will be taken against those teachers who fail to comply with this decision. A compliance report in this regard may be sent to the board by September 10, 2018,” Vinoba said.
"The board member added that the teachers who gave tuitions also showed bias towards the students who attended the said classes, as alleged by the parents. “Of late, there have been cases wherein teachers of Indian schools were observed to be involved in private tuition, even for their own school students, wherein favouritism was alleged against them by the parents,” he said.
“As teachers of any institution, it is morally and ethically unbecoming of a teacher if that individual provides individual attention to his/her own school students through remuneration-based private tuition or private teaching activities.”
“As you are aware, as per Rule 39 of the Central Board of Secondary Education affiliation bye-laws, no teacher in schools affiliated to the CBSE should engage in private tuition or private teaching activities. Section 28 of the Right To Education Act 2009 (India) also prohibits teachers from engaging in private tuition,” Vinoba said.
The law of the land in the Sultanate also made it illegal to have tuition centres at home, as it involves the safety of children ,” Vinoba said.
He added that the reputation of Indian schools was at stake.
