Desert tourism to showcase beauty of Oman

Muscat: The tourism components of the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate are breathtaking.

The governorate is an attraction for tourists due to its diverse terrain, natural beauties and specific places, which attract a large number of people from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

To showcase its diverse atmosphere and tourist places, private sector institutions are encouraged to hold tourism forums that highlight these components.

The branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate is organising desert tourism in the Wilayat of Bidiya, under the title “Oman Desert Tourism Forum,” with the participation of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and a number of government and private institutions, which will be launched on January 24.

It will be attended by a number of officials in the investment and tourism sectors, officials of travel and tourism companies, desert reserves, and owners of projects related to the desert winter season.

Salah bin Salem Al Hajri, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry branch in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, explained that the forum will be implemented for the first time at the level of the Sultanate of Oman, and is considered of great importance for investment in the desert tourism sector in the governorate with all its specialisations, which include: the laws regulating this sector, the investment opportunities available to investors from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, the cultural and social dimension of desert tourism, and the Gulf experiences in this aspect.

He said in a statement to the Oman News Agency that the “Oman Desert Tourism Forum” will highlight the tourism components, the cultural and historic heritage, the diversity of tourism patterns that the desert of the Sultanate of Oman enjoys, and its importance as a tourist attraction point for local and international visitors, indicating that the announcement will be made in cooperation with other bodies.

Specialised training

He said that qualitative initiatives are being taken to launch specialised training courses in the field of tourism media and training people of the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate region working in this field.

Salah bin Salem Al-Hajri added that preparations for the forum began early, as many meetings were held in which the topics that the forum would present were discussed and the committees that would be entrusted with the task of organising the forum were formed.

He pointed out that the forum will present working papers dealing with investment opportunities in desert tourism, legislation and laws in desert tourism and its cultural and social dimensions.
