Over 200 Filipino expats granted amnesty, sent home from UAE

Muscat: A second batch of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) has arrived in Manila after being repatriated from the UAE as a result of an ongoing amnesty programme.
The 117 people that were part of the second group of returning workers takes the total number of repatriated OFWs to 217 people, since the amnesty began in August.

According to Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato, the returning OFWs were accompanied by Vice Consul Elizabeth Picar Ramos of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai.
The Department of Foreign Affairs shouldered the exit fees, penalties, and plane tickets of the returning workers and is also set provide them with PHP5,000 cash assistance upon arrival.
The first batch of 100 repatriates arrived on August 16, 2018.
