Mwasalat to review airport taxi fares

Muscat: Oman’s public taxi service Mwasalat has issued a clarification about rumours regarding expensive taxi fares from Muscat International Airport, saying that they will be reviewing airport taxi fares.
Taxi drivers had complained that the new airport taxi fares — that were lowered earlier this year — were not “feasible”, according to Mwasalat.
In a statement online, the company said, “The company has been following what had been circulated in social media about the raising of fees of the airport taxi, thanking all for their remarks and proposals.
“Mwasalat Taxi would like to clarify that fares of airport taxis were reviewed at the beginning of this year. Before, taxi meters used to start OMR6, which was revised to OMR3 for the trips between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm, and OMR3.600 for trips between 10:00 pm to 6:00 am, and on weekends and public holidays.”
“The current prices were refused by the taxi owners who justified that as it was not feasible. The company will coordinate with the concerned authorities to regulate taxis at the airport.”
