Football: Liverpool official fan club Oman Reds hold anniversary celebrations, AGM

MUSCAT: Liverpool FC kicked off the English Premier League season on Sunday with a 4-0 win against West Ham United which took the mighty reds to the top of the table, which also coincided with the 7th Anniversary of Oman Reds, the Sultanate’s oldest official football fan club with a celebration held at the Grand Hyatt Muscat.
The Oman Reds have gone from strength to strength since beginning from just two friends meeting to watch the games and has now expanded to over 300 members with both English and Arabic sections meeting in two different venues on match days. Oman Reds do not only gather to watch the matches together.
In 2013 the fans travelled all the way to Liverpool to play a game against Liverpool’s internationals fans at the famous Anfield stadium.
As members of the club they also get access to match day tickets and at the present it boasts that it has 27 tickets to various matches for its members this season.
Oman Reds members are even entitled to a black tie dinner at Anfield with LFC legends every year. The group has also hosted former Liverpool players in Muscat such as Alan Kennedy, who scored the winning goals in two European Cup finals and Gary McAllister who scored an unforgettable goal against Everton in the Merseyside derby against Everton.
At the end of the function the Oman Reds held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2018, under the chairmanship of Nabil Al Busaidi, the Chairman of Oman Reds which was attended by committee members and other fans club.
The committee members voted in for the 2018-19 season were Nabil Al Busaidi, chairman; Adam Al Jabry, secretary; Sean Hennessey, treasurer who have been doing a tremendous job for the Oman Reds members.
Liverpool FC fans around the world look to expand even more with charismatic coach Jurgen Klopp and Egyptian talisman Mo Salah taking the team to the Champions League last season.
