Muscat: Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs has announced that Tuesday, August 21, 2018, will be the first day of Eid Al Adha in the Sultanate.

In a statement, the ministry said, “Arafa Day will fall on Monday, August 20, corresponding to the 9th of Dhul Hijjah. Therefore, Tuesday, August 21, will be the first day of Eid Al Adha. On this occasion, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs would like to extend its best wishes and congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.”

Haj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, and a religious duty for Muslims that must be performed at least once in their lifetime. The pilgrimage ritual starts on the 8th-12th day of the last month of the Islamic calendar “Dhul Hijjah”.

The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs saw 27,058 pilgrims registering this year, and some 13,450 Omanis were accepted. In order to accelerate the travel procedures for pilgrims, Oman Airports has designated special counters for pilgrims to finish their procedures.

Pilgrims may access the travel procedure area through specified corridors.

Additionally, a number of elderly passengers were taken in special transport vehicles to departure gates, with preparations aimed at making sure they travel with ease.
