Two lucky mothers win OMR50 car seat vouchers

Muscat: Two lucky mothers have won the first OMR50 vouchers each from Babyshop for car seats, as part of an initiative by the Times of Oman called ‘STRAP ‘EM IN’ to promote child safety.
“This is the first time I’ve won something like this, so I felt very happy and lucky when I heard the news,” said Sandhya Nair, a mother of a five-year-old, who won the voucher on day one.
Winning this car seat voucher means a lot to Nair who is expecting her second child. “This is a gift for my child and not for me,” she said, adding, “This is more than a simple prize because it could potentially save my child’s life.”
Nair happened to move to the Sultanate a few months before the Royal Oman Police (ROP) announced the law on child seats. “We knew we had to buy one, so my husband and I were thinking about whether to get a second-hand one or buy a new one, but now we don’t have to do that.”
Nair and her husband plan to buy the child seat this Friday.
“I am very grateful to the Times of Oman for starting this very important initiative,” she said.
She added, “I have witnessed many people letting their children hang onto the windows, which is very dangerous; so, this is a very good initiative which will boost child safety in the Sultanate of Oman.”
Carmina Delas Palad was the second winner of the ‘STRAP ‘EM IN’ contest. “I was really happy and surprised that I won,” the mother of two said. “I am really an advocate for having car seats for children, and even my own two children have car seats in my car.”

Winning this voucher has given Palad the chance to buy a new seat for her growing one year old. “We will try to go to the baby store this weekend to find a better child seat for my daughter who is growing,” she added.
On Sunday, the Times of Oman launched ‘STRAP ‘EM IN’, a campaign to raise awareness and give away vouchers for car seats. Every day since then, two lucky winners have won OMR50 each.
