This is how much you need to pay for irregular baggage at Oman’s airports

Muscat: Air travelers will now be charged a fee for any ‘irregularly shaped luggage’ that they wish to check-in at airports in Oman, authorities have revealed.

Oman Airports Authority defines irregularly shaped luggage or out of guage baggage (OOGB) as luggage that does not have a single flat surface like regular bags.

Travelers will be charged either OMR2.5 for OOGB or OMR4 for (Super) S-OOGB and requires being processed through a lift.

Furthermore, the irregularly shaped luggage is regarded as such because it is either under the minimum dimension of the size limit, that is 30cm X 8cm X 7.5 cm and weighs less than seven kgs or exceeds the maximum dimension of 100 cm X 75 cm X 60 cm.

This may include fragile items such as a television or other electronic goods. Moreover, there will be a separate counter that will accept such luggage.

“Out-of-gauge baggage is basically baggage that is too large, too light, too heavy, too fragile, does not have at least one flat surface, or can damage or reduce the system capacity.

“Baggage that is more than 100cm long, 60cm height and 75cm wide, or that does not have a single flat surface, will need to be dropped at the oversized baggage counter. Please allow extra time to check-in oversized baggage.

“New baggage rules have been introduced to help improving baggage services for all passengers at MCT (Muscat) and SLL (Salalah) Airports,” an official statement at the Oman Airports website said.
