Haya Water CEO visits the Wilayat of Masirah

Muscat: Haya Water CEO Engr. Hussain bin Hassan Abdul Hussain recently visited the Wilayat of Masirah to follow up on the development of ongoing projects and to observe the delivery of wastewater services by Haya Water in the Wilayat.
Hussain confirmed that the wastewater sector plays an effective role in developing the infrastructure of the country as it helps protect Muscat and other governorates’ environment from pollution.
During the visit, Hussain met Al Shaikh Talal bin Saif Al Hosni, the Wali of the Wilayat of Masirah, as well as an Al Shura member, Municipal Council members, and a number of governmental managers, to discuss updates and developments in wastewater services in Masirah and to look for solutions to overcome the challenges facing the vital sector.
The meeting started with a speech delivered by the Wali, in which he expressed his appreciation for the crucial role played by Haya Water in delivering different wastewater services around the country.
Haya Water, which has been tasked by the government to develop, manage, and maintain wastewater services for all governorates under the administration of the Ministry of Regional Municipal and Water Resources since 2014, recently made a Master Plan to extend its wastewater services to cover all governorates.
Hussain emphasised that until the actual operation of this plan, Haya Water is working hard to find suitable and practical solutions to deal with the current situation.
A number of issues regarding wastewater services were discussed in the meeting, including the repair of damaged wastewater facilities and networks in the Wilayat and raising the sewage station’s capacity to replace the old traditional sewage disposal systems and sewage treatment plant.
The use of treated water in afforestation programmes and for agricultural productivity was also brought up during the meeting, along with the possibility of cooperating with the private sector in such projects. Treated water is considered a viable alternative to high-cost desalinated water in afforestation projects and other industrial projects like cooling and road pavement, and helps the country achieves a number of goals, such as the protection of groundwater.
During the visit, Haya Water also agreed to prepare a full report, which will be sent to special authorities for approval of the required provisions. This is aimed at finding radical solutions as quickly as possible, especially for the rehabilitation of the networks and wastewater treatment stations, the purpose of which is to provide a healthy environment for the residents of the Wilayat.
Hussain concluded the meeting by expressing his deep gratitude and appreciation for the Wali of Masirah, the Al Shura member, and Municipal Council members.
