National Museum releases photo of the first note to have HM’s portrait on it

Muscat: To commemorate Oman’s Renaissance Day, the National Museum released a photo of the first OMR20 note that featured the image of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said.
The note was even more special because it was the first time in the history of the Sultanate that the portrait of a ruler was printed on currency.
Officials from National Museum of Oman said that the image of His Majesty was featured on currency for the first time in November 18, 1976. The image that was printed on an OMR20 note was issued by the Central Bank of Oman and printed by Bradbury Wilkinson (United Kingdom).
In a statement online the Museum said, “A third set of banknotes now called Rial Omani were issued in 1976 CE to mark the sixth National Day. It also featured an image of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said on the front, making it the first time in the history of Omani currency that a portrait of a ruler was placed on money. This was an innovative step to mark a new national currency.”
“The newly established Central Bank of Oman replaced the Oman Currency Board, and featured on the back of the 20-Rial Omani banknotes,” the museum added.
