Consumer watchdog shuts down a labour recruiter’s office in Oman

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Department in Al Buraimi Governorate recently shut down a labour recruitment office after they received repeated complaints against the office for violating the Consumer Protection Law issued by Royal Decree No. 66/2014.
Clients who approached the office to hire domestic workers filed complaints against the establishment.
The Public Authority for consumer Protection (PACP) said, "A lot of complaints were submitted against the office [for] non-compliance with transparency, credibility, and codes of conduct in dealing with the consumer, breach of the warranty period, and non-refund of service value due to breach.
PACP added, "The Department took legal action after coordinating with the Public Prosecution, which in turn issued a judicial decision providing for a temporary closure of the office pending the dismissal of the case based on article 37 of the Consumer Protection Law.”
The General Authority for Consumer Protection calls on commercial establishments to adhere to transparency and credibility when dealing with consumers to avoid the occurrence of legal violations and their consequences.
