Fisherman accidentally nets three whale sharks in Oman

Muscat: An Omani fisherman accidentally netted three whale sharks off the coast of Oman.
Nasser bin Zayed Al Qatiti’s photos with a whale shark that he accidentally caught off the Khaboura coast went viral after many were amazed at the size of the shark and the fact that it was found in Oman.

“On Saturday, at 6am, I found three sharks, which we call ‘Al Kar’ locally, in my net,” Al Qatiti told Times of Oman.
“One was dead but the other two were alive, and I freed them back into the sea.”
Al Qatiti said he took the dead whale shark with him to prevent it from damaging other fishermen’s boats.
“I brought out the dead shark so fishermen’s boats would not hit it and have their engines destroyed, as that can cost them more than OMR3,000,” he explained.
“We do not fish for this type of shark because it is not for sale, so when they get caught in our nets, we release them.”
