Temperatures in parts of Oman to dip during Eid holidays

Muscat: The temperatures will drop by four degrees Celsius in Muscat and by one degree in Salalah with an increase in humidity during the Eid holidays, according to an expert from Oman’s meteorology department.
“As of June 12, the temperatures in Muscat is 41 degrees Celsius but will drop to 37 degrees Celsius on June 15. However, the apparent temperature will be 42 degrees Celsius with humidity as high as 85 per cent,” said the expert.
The drop in temperatures is due to the northeasterly winds blowing from the Sea of Oman. “When the wind is blowing from the northeasterly side, the temperatures decreases and the humidity increases,” the official told the Times of Oman.
Salalah is set to record a temperatures of 29 degrees Celsius on June 15, with humidity as high as 95 per cent. “Although the humidity is going to be very high in Salalah, people won’t feel it much, as the temperatures will be below 30 degrees Celsius,” said the expert.
However, open areas of the governorates of Al Dahirah and Al Wusta are likely to experience temperatures as high as 48 degrees Celsius because of the northwesterly wind blowing from the Empty Quarters, said the official.
Other governorates such as Al Dakhiliyah, Al Sharqiyah and Al Batinah are also expected to experience the change in temperatures on June 15.
“The temperature in Nizwa, in the governorate of Ad Dakhiliyah, is going to be around 45 degrees Celsius on June 15 due to the westerly wind blowing from the empty quarters. However, the temperatures in Sohar, in the governorate of North Al Batinah, is likely to drop from 41 degrees Celsius to 39 degrees Celsius with humidity as high as 80 per cent due to the northeasterly wind. Rustaq, in the south governorate of Al Batinah, will experience an increase in temperatures from 43 to 45 degrees Celsius mainly because of the westerly wind,” said the official.
As for the governorate of Al Sharqiyah, the temperature in Sur was going to drop from 42 to 40 degrees Celsius, with an apparent temperature of 42 degrees Celsius and humidity as high as 65 per cent, said the official.
