Raysut fishing port cleared up after Cyclone Mekunu in 20 hours flat

Muscat: Volunteers have managed to clear up the entire fishing port in Raysut, which was hit by Cyclone Mekunu, within a span of twenty hours.
“It is our duty to contribute to the clearing and cleaning up of what was left behind after the cyclone,” said Eng. Ahmed Mohamed Beit Ali Suleiman, municipal council member in the wilayat of Salalah.
The Awqad Al Sharqiyah Volunteer Centre, with the support of the Oman Road Engineering Company, assisted fishermen in restoring the fishing port in Raysut, which was damaged due to the devastating effects of Cyclone Mekunu. Fishermen were not able to go to sea due to residue, which reduced the supply of fish in the central market in Salalah.

The first stage of work began on May 31, 2018, at 9pm, after preparation and coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Municipality, and private companies, ending at 4am. The work was resumed the following day at 3pm and continued until 4am. “I am calling on everyone, especially young people to work together along with the governmental authorities to restore the governorate to the beauty it is known for.” Eng. Ahmed said.
Sheikh Majid bin Said Gawas from Oman Engineering Roads Company said, “It is our duty to join forces for Oman and we are ready to integrate with all governmental and private efforts to eliminate the damage left behind by the cyclone.”
