Muscat: More than 27,000 Omanis have been hired so far this year, according to an official from the Ministry of Manpower. The government, represented by the Ministry of Manpower, is making strong efforts to provide job opportunities through its various departments to search for employment opportunities from private sector establishments that are suited to the qualifications of Omani job seekers, according to officials.

Salim Al Hadrami, director general of planning and development at the Ministry of Manpower, said that so far this year, 2019, more than 27 thousand citizens were employed in the private sector.

According to Al Hadrami, the jobs were concentrated in three main sectors, construction, sales and distribution and industry. The three sectors accounted for 58 per cent of all the Omanis employed this year.


“Despite the lack of projects, the construction sector was able to recruit more than 8,000 citizens. The tourism sector is known for being the largest employer of Omani youth, however, the sector only managed to hire 6 per cent of the total number of employees this year, while the logistics sector employed about 5 per cent of the total Omanis employed,” Al Hadrami added.

Private sector institutions and companies have confirmed their support for the government’s efforts in the field of Omanisation of Omani youth to assume leadership positions.



The Ministry of Manpower signed an agreement with ‘’Takatuf Oman’’ regarding the design and implementation of the National Leadership Development Programme in order to empower Omanis qualified for middle and upper management jobs in the private sector.

The programme, named “Itimad” aims to train and qualify 500 citizens in the field of leadership in sectors identified by the National Programme for Enhancing Economic Diversification (Tanfeedh) 2019.

Eng. Mohammed bin Salim Al Busaidi, Chairman of the Shura Council’s Youth and Human Resources Committee, said that the programme reflects the government’s interest in national cadres, which aims to raise the percentage of Omanis to 20 per cent in the private sector.
