Fast clean up after a week of heavy rain in Oman

Muscat: Oman’s Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) has responded to 90 rescue calls during the heavy rainstorms which affected the Sultanate last week.
Specialised teams including firefighters, water and land search and rescue teams and ambulance personnel dealt with these rescue reports.
Colonel, Mubarak Al Araimi, the Director General of Operations and Training at PACDA said: “PACDA dealt with 90 rescue calls and conducted 37 rescue operations.”
As for calls recorded by various governorates, North Sharqiyah registered the biggest number, which resulted in 19 rescue operations, followed by Muscat which recorded 17 rescue operations.
The death toll from the flash floods which hit Oman stood at six.
Since the end of the weather condition authorities, volunteers and local residents have begun to clear roads affected by heavy rains.
Municipal workers cleared pools of water, rocks and sand from the roads.
Municipalities in Sharqiyah and Dakhliyah governorates restored the damaged public roads. Officials in wilayahs such as Mudhaibi, Barka, Nizwa, Samail, Bidbid, Izki, Nizwa, Kamil Wa Al Wafi, Adam, Nakhal, and Manah said that all roads are cleared and opened to traffic.
Cleaning up works in other governorates such as Dhahirah, North Batinah and Muscat were also carried out by municipality workers and traffic movement was restored.
Furthermore, on Monday, May 20 the Minister of Transport and Communication, Dr Ahmed Al Futaisi, inspected the damage that occurred on the road leading to wilayat Wadi Bani Khalid, especially in the Aqaba area, and directed the specialists to develop durable solutions to the issue.
The Minister met with a number of citizens during the visit and listened to their demands and observations regarding the affected roads in the wilayat.
Highest rainfall
Wadi Bani Khalid recorded the highest amount of rainfall followed by Dhofar, according to the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources monitoring stations.
Sur recorded 101 mm of rainfall, followed by Al Mudhaibi with 101 mm, Yanqul with 95mm, Samayil with 89mm, Ibri with 85mm, and Manah with 82 mm of rainfall. Khasab recorded the least amount of rainfall, with 1 mm of rain.
