Video: Cyclone Mekunu makes landfall in Dhofar, more rainfall forecast

Muscat: Cyclone Mekunu has made landfall in Oman, after the centre of the storm passed over the coastal area between Raysut and Rakhyut.

A statement from the Public Authority for Civil Aviation's meteorology department said that the cyclone was moving towards the coastal area of Dhofar. Satellite images revealed that the cyclone is currently in Dhofar and is moving west-by-north-west, with wind speeds in the centre between 126 to 144 kmph.

The authority said: "The latest weather satellite imageries of the National Multi Hazard and Early Warning Centre show the centre of the cyclone passing by coastal area of Dhofar in the area between Raysut and Raykhut."

The forecast also predicted more rainfall over Dhofar for the next 48 hours.
