Ministry considering postponing exams as tropical storm nears Oman

Muscat: As tropical storm Mekunu nears the southern coast, Ministry of Education is considering postponing examinations that are scheduled to be held over the next few days.

The storm, which is expected to intensify into a Category Two cyclone code-named Mekunu, could severely affect parts of the Dhofar Governorate and its capital city, Salalah, with the Wusta Governorate and surrounding areas likely to be hit too.
Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, presided over an emergency meeting of the Central Committee for Crisis Management on Wednesday.

The meeting reviewed the status of schools and discussed proposals for new dates for tests for classes 5-11 too. The Minister stressed on taking appropriate decisions in a timely manner to benefit the students.
In addition, Majlis Al Shura postponed a key hearing that had been organised by the Ministry of Environmental and Climate affairs.
In a statement, the Consultative Council said: “The Majlis Al Shura postpones the discussion with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs to June 3 and 4.”
The council was expected to hear from Mohammed bin Salim Al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs, on May 27 and 28.
