Muscat: A total of 539 expat workers were arrested between May 13 and May 19, 2018, while 314 were deported for violating the Labour Laws, the Ministry of Manpower announced.
The arrests were made by the joint labour inspection teams of the Ministry.
In a statement online, the Ministry said, "By examining the violations of those who were caught by the inspection teams, 299 of them were runaway workers, 214 were free visa workers, and 26 workers were undocumented."
Muscat Governorate recorded the highest number of labours violating labour laws during this period, with a total of 299 illegal workers. That was followed by North Al Batinah Governorate at 96.
The concerned authorities at the Ministry of Manpower have taken legal action against the workers.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Manpower also deported 314 workers this week as a result of violating the Labour Law and ministerial decisions.
