New York: The U.S. Justice Department and the FBI are investigating Cambridge Analytica, a now-defunct political data firm embroiled in a scandal over its handling of Facebook Inc user information, according to the New York Times.
The news organisation reported that both the U.S. Justice Department and the FBI are questioning former employees and even banks that handled the company's business.
Cambridge Analytica shut its doors earlier this month after it lost clients and faced growing legal fees. The political data firm was once used by the Trump campaign and came under scrutiny for harvesting the data of 87 millions Facebook users.
The new investigation appears to focus on the company's financial dealings, and how it acquired and used personal data. According to the Times, Investigators have also contacted Facebook.
The FBI, Justice Department and Facebook have declined to comment to Reuters and former officials with Cambridge Analytica were not immediately available.
