Man arrested for climbing Eiffel tower

Paris: A man was arrested for climbing the Eiffel Tower, local media reported.

The climber caused the world-famous structure to be evacuated mid-afternoon as security staff feared for the safety of visitors and on-lookers.

France Info radio said that the police had not named the man who was handed over to emergency services for medical checks.

The tower has since reopened to visitors.
