Catch a glimpse of latest in IT world at COMEX 2018

Muscat: The 28th edition of the biggest information and communication technology event in the Sultanate, COMEX 2018, was launched at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) on Monday morning.
The six-day event was inaugurated under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Assistant Secretary General for Innovation Development at the Research Council with the support of the Information Technology Authority (ITA) and e-Oman.
Among the attractions at COMEX 2018, spread over 6,800 square metres with 100 premium exhibitors, are the latest in robotics, artificial intelligence and virtual reality for home and commercial solutions tailored for both large and small businesses. “We are expecting more than 90,000 visitors this year at COMEX 2018 and that’s one of the reasons for having the exhibition for six days, so that people can stop by during the weekend as well,” said a spokesperson from the organising committee, Oman International Trade and Exhibition.
COMEX Technology week is split into three elements — Business and E-Oman, Shopper and Smart Homes, and Smart City & Industry 4.0 Summit.
The smart cities summit would be inaugurated at 9am on Tuesday and continue until April 25 in Hall 5 of the OCEC. The e-Oman pavilion and the business section will be open for the first three days in Halls 4 and 5, while the shoppers pavilion will open on Tuesday at 10am in Hall 3 and is set to continue until April 28.
Three Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are participating in COMEX this year: Saudi Arabia, represented by the Ministry of Justice and Economic Cities Authority; Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Justice; and Bahrain, represented by the Ministry of Health.
COMEX features 19 government entities’ services this year alongside the Oman Information Technology Society under the e-Oman pavilion. Some of them are launching new electronic services during the exhibition.
Commenting on the exhibition and its activities, HH Sayyid Dr. Fahad bin Al-Julanda Al-Said said: “I am proud of the achievements and success in the implementation of digital transformation in the services provided to citizens and in reducing the burden and solving problems. It makes us proud to see those achievements realised by Omanis’ efforts in different institutions. We congratulate all the government entities and we appreciate ITA’s efforts in organising this exhibition, as well as the participation of different GCC countries.”
