Event to celebrate NRIs will be held in India

Muscat: Indians residing in Oman are being asked to register for a special event being organised to honour the contributions of Non Resident Indians (NRI).
The 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is being organised in Varanasi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh from 21 to 23 January 2019, and the Embassy of India in Oman has called on all Indians who live and work in the Sultanate to come forward and register their interest in attending the event.
With a theme centred on Indian expats, the 15th PBD will discuss the role of the Indian diaspora in building a new India.
A host of guests are expected to attend the event, including Indian origin Norwegian politician Himanshu Gulati, New Zealand-based politician Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi and US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.
In addition, the Prime Minister of Mauritius, as well as the Prime Minister and President of India will also be present at the event.
The trip to Varanasi will also see residents from Oman who travel to India take part in the famous Kumbh Snan, a holy bath taken by those who visit the city of Varanasi, which has long been steeped in Indian culture and tradition.
The entire event in India is for a total of five days, from the 21st to 26th of January. With the PBD finishing on the 23rd, participants will then be taken to Allahabad for the Kumbh Snan, before returning to New Delhi by a special train to take part in the Republic Day celebrations on the 26th.
