OMR60 million desalination plant coming up in Oman

Muscat: An OMR60 million seawater desalination project will be constructed in Salalah, and is expected to be operational by 2020 according to authorities.
On Wednesday, Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP), a member of Nama Group, will sign agreements for the construction of the Salalah Water Desalination Plant with the investment group of ACWA Power Saudi Arabia, Veolia Middle East and Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding Company at a total cost of OMR60 million.
The plant will be built in the Ashur Plain in the Wilayat of Mirbat in Dhofar Governorate with a production capacity of 113,650 cubic metres per day, equivalent to 25 million gallons per day. The plant is expected to operate commercially by 2020.
Under the terms of the agreement, OPWP will have the right to purchase desalinated water produced from the plant during the concession period set for 20 years.
The project includes the design, construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of a highly efficient drinking water desalination plant using reverse osmosis technology.
ACWA Power holds a 50.1 per cent stake in the project, while Veolia Middle East has 35 per cent and Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding has 14.9 per cent.
