Oman police arrest 20 expat women for wearing 'inappropriate' clothes

Muscat: The Criminal Investigation Department at Bausher Police station arrested 20 women of Asian and African nationalities for appearing in public places in inappropriate clothing, according to a statement released by Royal Oman Police.

“The Criminal Investigation Department of Bausher Police station of Muscat police command arrested 20 women for appearing in inappropriate manner," the force announced via social media.

An official at the Royal Oman Police (ROP), said that the accused were arrested while they were in public places in Khuwair area of Bausher.

They were all referred to the judicial authorities for further necessarily actions.

The Omani Penal Code of the Royal Decree No. 7/2018, stipulates that anyone appearing in public places and roads that undermines the public modesty and violates the traditions and society values, will be punished for imprisonment of not less than a month in jail, not exceeding three months and a fine not less than OMR 300 and not exceeding OMR 500.
