Three arrested for selling expired cake in school

Muscat: Three people were arrested for selling expired cake and fabricating expiry dates, in a school in Izki, announced the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP).
According to officials, the Court of First Instance in Izki passed a judgement against the defendants. While two of them were fined OMR2,000 each, the third person was fined OMR200, for violating the Consumer Protection Law No. 66/2014.
Authorities at PACP said that while some of the cakes were expired, a few had no expiry dates and the others had removable stickers with fabricated expiry dates on them. “The Department of Consumer Protection received a complaint from a school in Izki, stating that some sellers in the canteen were selling cakes which were either expired or had no expiry dates. Some of the products even had removable stickers with fabricated expiry dates,” PACP said.
