Riyadh: The US Department of State has ordered all of its non-emergency staff in Iraq to leave the country, the US Embassy in Baghdad announced.

In a statement posted online, the embassy stated that it's visa services and those at the consulate in Irbil will be suspended.

The order comes days after the embassy urged Americans to avoid visiting Iraq amid 'heightened tensions'.
