445 megawatt power plant in Salalah to open on Thursday

Salalah: Salalah 2 Independent Power Plant will be officially opened on Thursday in the Governorate of Dhofar under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said.
The Salalah 2 Independent Power Plant has a capacity of 445 megawatts, bringing Dhofar Generating Company’s capacity to 718 megawatts across the two existing and new stations at a cost of OMR240 million.
Eng. Naef bin Mohammad Al Awaed, CEO of Dhofar Generating Company told Oman News Agency (ONA), “The Salalah 2nd Independent Power Plant started its commercial operation at the beginning of last January, in addition to the existing 273 megawatt plant, thus the company has become the largest producer of electricity in the governorate of Dhofar.” He added that the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWPC) will purchase the power produced from the new and old stations belonging to the company for 15 years under the power purchase contract signed between the
two parties.
Dhofar Generating Company was established in 2015 with the partnership of Mitsui with 45 per cent, Aqua Power with 45 per cent and Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding by 10 per cent.
