Pak Falcons win title at Gulf Hockey Fiesta

Muscat: With former internationals providing the spark, Pak Falcons overcame the challenge of Saudi Strikers to take the top honours in the UTSC Gulf Hockey Fiesta at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex during the last weekend.
In an thrilling final, Pak Falcons, who had a couple former internationals including the current coach of Oman national tem Tahir Zaman in their lineup, survived some tense moments before emerging 2-1 winners to lift the winners trophy.
Earlier in the semifinals, Pak Falcons defeated Qatar Wanderers 1-0 and Saudi Strikers routed Young Stars Bahrain 7-1.
The third edition of the annual event, organised by the United Thalassery Sports Club (UTSC) in co-operation with the Oman Hockey Association (OHA), had attracted 12 teams from across the Gulf region.
The event was inaugurated by OHA chief Talib Al Wahaibi and UTSC General Secretary P.V. Sirajuddin on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, OHA chief said: “I am glad that UTSC is conducting such an event. The OHA is always with you to support your efforts to promote hockey.”
Besides, Pak Falcons, Saudi Strikers, Qatar Wanderers and Young Stars Bahrain who took part in the tournament were Team Coorg Muscat, UTSC, Nizwa Sports Club, Al Salam Sports Club, Muscat Orangeers, Oman Veterans, OHA Red, OHA White and Hungry Hamours Bahrain.
The tournament was sponsored by Shahi Spices, Malabar Jewellery, Mohammed Riyas and Partners, Al Rehwan, Muscat Pharmacy, Oasis Water, Al Sarooj Constructions, Foodlands Restaurant, Akbar Travels, Modern Exchange, Lulu Hypermarket, Shipco, Badar Shipping, Badar Al Samaa Group of Hospitals, Air India, Fap, Al Nahla and Lynx.
