Cricket: Oman slump to another defeat in WCL Division 2

Muscat: Oman suffered their third defeat in four matches when they were outplayed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a 46-run win in the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 competition in Namibia on Monday.
The result left Oman in the danger of being relegated to Division 3 competition. And to avoid that the Sultanate’s squad need to beat Kenya in their final match of the six-team competition with a big margin on Wednesday and hope for favourable results from the other matches.
The top two teams from the competition advance to 2018 World Cup Qualifier while the bottom two will be relegated to Division 3.
Oman with two points are currently in the fifth place just ahead of winless Kenya.
Canada and Nepal with six points each are leading the table followed by the UAE and hosts Namibia, both of whom has so far earned four points each.
At Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek on Monday, the UAE won the toss and elected bat first.
Oman did well to bowl out the UAE for 159 in 46 overs with Khawar Ali claiming three wickets. Kaleemullah and Bilal Khan bagged two wickets each.
For the UAE, Ghulam Shabber topscored with 63 runs while Rameez Shahzad contributed 20 runs.
In reply, Oman were give a good start by Jatinder Singh and Aaqib Ilyas. But soon they lost their way and were bundled out for 113 in just 36.5 overs.
Jatinder was the topscorer with 51 and Aaqib scored 20.
UAE’s Mohammed Naveed and Imran Haider did most of the damage claiming three wickets each while Ahmed Raza took two.
