Over 23,000 vote to elect new OCCI board members

Muscat: About 23,505 of enterprises’ owners and their representatives headed to the ballot centres in the different governorates to elect new board for Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), as well as electing boards of directors of the branches for the next term 2018 - 2022.
OCCI headquarters Board comprises five members from the Governorate of Muscat, in addition to heads of 10 boards of OCCI branches at the governorates. An OCCI branch board comprises seven members.
Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Dheeb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Head of the OCCI Election Committee said that the voting for electing the OCCI Board of Directors is done electronically and under close monitoring at the election centres.
He affirmed that the election process went as planned by the Committee. “Cooperation is maintained by all voters despite the high turnout at the election centre.
He added that the election period will extend from 08.00 am to 06.00 pm and that there is a trend to extend this period to provide voters with the opportunity to cast their votes, he added in a statement to reporters.
“The Main Committee will announce the results after the end of the elections. Candidates have 7 days to submit their appeals after which the Committee will announce the final lists. Each OCCI branch board will hold a meeting to elect the head and deputy dead after which the 10 heads of the branches and the Governorate of Muscat members will meet to elect the OCCI Chairman,” Eng.Al Dheeb concluded.
