Muscat: Imran Asghar Ali’s sterling all-round effort helped Salman Stores to a win against Glory Bower Strikers in a Khimji Ramdas-sponsored A Division thriller at the Ministry of Sports Affairs Ground I in Al Amerat on Saturday.

The two teams with strong bowling attack tested each others’ batting skills as bowlers won the day in a dramatic finish.

Batting first, Salman Stores were reeling at 50 for four and then 71 for eigh before being bundled out for a paltry 116 in the 33rd over. Imran Asghar was the only batsman who resisted the Strikers’ onslaught with a valiant 49 not out off 75 balls.

Anup Rajan led the bowling honours for Strikers, claiming four wickets while Muhammed Rizwan and Vineet Rana bagged two each.

Defending a small total, Salman Stores reduced the Strikers to 78 for five with Imran and Asim Kamal stiking at regular intervals. Struggling at 98 for eight, Strikers found the going tough and folded up for a meagre 105 in the 30th over as off-spinner Muhammed Azeem took the last three wickets conceding just six runs. Vineet Rana topscored with 17 off 19 balls. Imran and Asim also claimed three wickets each.

Brief scores: Salman Stores 116 all out in 32.2 overs (Imran Asghar Ali 49 n.o.; Anup Rajan 4/33, Muhammed Rizwan 2/23, Vineet Rana 2/33) bt Glory Bower Strikers 105 all out in 29.2 overs (Vineet Rana 17; Muhammed Azeem 3/6, Asim Kamal 3/31, Imran Asghar Ali 3/42).
