Muscat: A police officer has been stabbed to death in a busy shopping mall in Oman.
The incident, at City Centre Muscat mall, happened shortly after 1pm on Saturday.
The attacker was disarmed by police and taken to hospital, according to officials.

Police confirmed one death and two injuries following the incident. A spokesman for the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said: “Referring to your video clips and photos traded on social media about a murder in Muscat City Centre complex, police are confirming the arrest of the accused and the case proceedings. “Police indicate that the medium used in crime are white weapon (knife)...the offence resulted in one death and injured two others.”
The Royal Oman Police officials also called on residents not to share the video clips or photographs of the incident, and offered condolences to the officer’s family.
An online statement from Royal Oman Police stated that the killer was mentally ill, according to paperwork found during a search.
“Royal Oman Police mourns the death of one of its members today, while performing his duty. May Allah bestow his soul with the martyrs and the truthful, and asks all employees of the police to provide condolences to the bereaved family, and we call Almighty Allah to inspire them with patience and fortitude,” added the spokesman. “We belong to God and to him we shall return”
