New taxi waiting lounge opened in Sohar

Muscat: Citizens and residents who are waiting for taxis in Sohar can now do so in the comfort of a newly-opened air-conditioned taxi lounge.

Sohar Municipality has begun operating its taxi waiting lounge which is located near Sohar Bridge. Worth over OMR 35,000, the lounge is equipped with an air-conditioned room with surveillance cameras and restrooms and is considered to be the first of its kind in the Sultanate.

Construction of the building began on March 4, 2018, Sohar municipality authorities previously reported that it consists of two lounges, one for men and the other for women. The lounge will be able to hold nearly 80 people at a time. The building has a modern design and will be situated near the Sohar bridge, in the direction of Lulu hypermarket.

The doors of the lounge and the front portion of the building will be made of glass, to make it easier for passengers to see when their vehicle arrives. The aim of the lounge is to ensure the safety and comfort of travellers. While many people stand under the sun waiting for taxis, this way, they will be protected during summer and from the rain in winter.
