Oman offers growth potential for jewellery retailers

Muscat: Oman offers tremendous growth potential for jewelers as it has a matured retail market and sizeable affluence, said Ramesh Kalyanaraman, Executive Director of Kalyan Jewellers, who was in Muscat ahead of opening three showrooms.
“We generally conduct market surveys before entering a country. Oman really needs a brand like Kalyan,” he added.
Kalyan Jewellers, one among the three biggest jewelers in India that plans to open three showrooms in Oman on Friday, is targeting a wide range of customers to gain a foothold in the Sultanate.
Since Kalyan Jewellers has a strong presence in different states in India, it will bring in a variety of designs to cater to the jewellery needs of people from different Indian states. “We are a pan-India player. We have several showrooms in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. So, every Indian can come to Kalyan,” added Kalyanaraman.
Kalyan Jewellers will bring a world-class jewellery shopping experience to the people of Oman. The showrooms will also feature Kalyan’s exhaustive collections for everyday wear as well for special occasions like weddings in contemporary and traditional motifs.
The showrooms will have an exclusive section displaying Kalyan’s popular house brands such as Ameera — the Arabic Collection, Mudhra — handcrafted antique jewellery, Ziah — an exquisite range of diamond jewellery, Glo-Dancing diamonds, Nimah — authentic heritage Jewellery, Anokhi — uncut diamonds, Apoorva — diamonds for special occasions, Antara — wedding Diamonds and Hera — daily wear diamonds and Rang — precious stones jewellery.
Also, he said that since Kalyan is opening three showrooms on a single day, it is easy for people living in different parts of Muscat to shop from the near-by jewellery.
Kalyanaraman said that Kalyan entered the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) market by opening 6 showrooms in the United Arab Emirates way back in 2013.
This was followed by markets like Kuwait (four showrooms) and Qatar (seven showrooms), and today Kalyan has a network of 28 showrooms across these three countries. Currently, Kalyan Jewellers has 118 stores spread across West Asia and India, and with the Oman launch, there will be a total of 121 showrooms.
Presently, the Middle East region constitutes 20 per cent of Kalyan’s total revenue.
Kalyan Jewellery has its own manufacturing facility and a portion of jewellery is from contract manufacturers. “We have three manufacturing units in Sharjah.”
All the three showrooms will be launched on December 29, 2017 at Al Ma’abelah, Ruwi and Baushar in Muscat, said a press release. Kalyan Jewellers’ global brand ambassador and film icon Amitabh Bachchan will inaugurate these showrooms along with other ambassadors like Prabhu Ganesan, Nagarjuna, Shivraj Kumar and Manju Warrier. Kalyan Jewellers’ Chairman and Managing Director T S Kalyanaraman and Executive Directors Rajesh Kalyanaraman and Ramesh Kalyanaraman will be present on the occasion.
