Haya Water shuts sewage plants, wastewater diverted

Muscat: Haya Water recently shut down two sewage treatment plants (STPs) in the Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos (capacity 7,500 cubic metres per day) and diverted the waste water to the Al Anasb STP.
This is in continuation of the implementation of the wastewater project in Muscat Governorate to provide an environment free of pollution, maintain the health of the citizens, as well as preserve the aesthetics of the city.
This step was taken after the completion of several major projects, including the main wastewater line project in Wilayat Bausher. This line is 25 kilometre long starting from the Al Hamriya roundabout to the intersection of the health centre signs in Al Ghubra. The line’s diametre ranges from 1,000 millimetres to 2,000 millimetres and has a depth ranging from 5 metres to more than 12 metres.
The completion and operation of this main sewer pipeline has connected the areas of Al Qurum and Madinat Al Ilam to the wastewater network, which consists of a 104-kilometre wastewater pipeline and 19 lifting and pumping stations, as well as connected the existing wastewater network in the Shatti Al Qurum area to the Al Sarooj area.
As a result, 12 lifting and pumping stations in the area were cancelled, as well as the Shatti Al Qurum STP, which is located in the city centre near the Ministry of Housing and thus, improved the aesthetics of this important business area. The company has also managed to connect the wastewater network in Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos with the main sewer line in Wilayat Bausher and cancelled the STP, which was a source of concern for the residents of this area. It is worth mentioning that the main sewer line in Wilayat Bausher (eastern sector) is connected to the wastewater networks on both sides of the Sultan Qaboos Street, starting from the Al Hamriya roundabout to the Al Azaiba area.
The wastewater flows through this line into an initial sewage collection area and then transfers to the main pumping station in Al Azaiba, which then pumps the wastewater to the Al Ansab STP.
The main pumping station in Al Azaiba, the first phase of which was constructed in 2010 with a capacity of 5,400 cubic metres per hour, is currently witnessing the implementation of the second phase to expand its operational capacity to 10,800 cubic metres per hour.
This station is located in the centre of Wilayat Bausher and connected to another main sewer line that was constructed under the main project (C-2) for the western sector of the main line.
This line is about 19 kilometres long, starting from the borders between the Wilayats Seeb and Bausher to the main pumping station in Al Azaiba.
This line is connected to the wastewater networks of several vital areas such as Airport Heights, the Muscat International Airport facilities, the Wave Muscat and a large part of the Al Azaiba area on both sides of the 18 November Street.
In order to achieve all of the above by connecting several areas with wastewater networks, the company has started implementing the second phase of the expansion of the Al Ansab STP.
Moreover, Haya ensured that the project was implemented in a timely manner to connect the houses in Bausher and cancel the old STPs. The expansion of the Al Ansab STP under Phase II will increase the capacity of the plant from 57,300 cubic metres per day to 85,000 cubic metres per day in March. Haya is currently carrying out the remaining works of the expansion of the Al Ansab STP, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year, and its capacity is planned to reach 125,000 cubic metres per day.
Haya Water is steadily implementing the wastewater project in the Muscat Governorate, in accordance with the approved master plan for the main projects and with the support of the concerned government entities to make Muscat greener and healthier for all the beneficiaries of the wastewater networks.
