Golf: Kevin D’Amours wins top honours at Europcar Open

Muscat: Kevin D’Amours won the top honours at the fifth Europcar Open golf tournament organised Almouj Golf here recently.
The 2017 edition of the popular tournament, which attracted over 100 players including Oman’s top amateur golfer Azzan Al Rumhy, also had the Par 3 – Academy course and inter-club competitions.
In the main tournament, Kevin D’Amours overcame stiff competition to win the Men’s Division A title. Shailesh Pande, meanwhile, won the Men’s Division B title.
In the women’s event, Jameela Daud improved on her second place finish in the last year’s tournament to take the top place.
In the Par 3 – Academy course, Norina Utot walked away with the top prize.
The Inter-club Challenge Trophy saw the captains and vice-captains of the four golf clubs compete for the top honours. Sabri Mandhari and Michele Anderasen of Almouj Golf, Sha Sudha and Henry Huneberg of Muscat Hills, Mike Rennardson and Steve Blee of Ghala Golf Club and Gary Battersby and Shawn Skibinsky of Ras Al Hamra Golf Club participated in the event, which was won by the duo from Almouj.
Earlier, Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy opened the tournament by teeing off at 6.40 a.m. Manabile Shogole, South African Ambassador, and Richard Grosse, Singapore Council General, also graced the occasion as the guests of honor.

The event was partnered by Mistal Watches and powered by Mitsubishi Motors, Al Ahlia Insurance, Travelex, A&E. Major prize sponsors were Oman Air, NBO, Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, WHSmith, Mumtaz Mahal and Woodlands.
“This year it wasn’t just the overwhelming number of golfers who participated but we also saw few of the best golfers of the country play at the challenge,” said Mr. Nitin Sapre, General Manager, Europcar Oman.
“It was an exciting day on both the championship course as well as the academy course. The Europcar Open serves as a platform for golfers to come together, compete and celebrate the spirit of golf.”
