Oman registers new plants with UN database

Muscat: The Sultanate successfully deposited 374 varieties of local plants in the International Council of Plant Varieties and the World Intellectual Property Organisation database.

"The Plant Registration and Certification Committee succeeded in documenting the data of 374 local plant varieties including date palm, citrus and mango, and placing them on the official site of the PLUTO database, which was adopted internationally by the International Council of Plant Varieties (UPOV) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). This is the first formal deposit of traditional plant varieties in the Sultanate," the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries announced online.
