Seeb Club clinch HM’s Cup for Youth

Muscat: Consistency in performances and achievements as well as continued contribution to the development of youth in 2016 helped Seeb Club lift His Majesty’s Cup for Youth for the 11th time.
The annual awards ceremony, organised by the Ministry of Sports Affairs to recognise and reward the clubs for their overall achievements in the field of both sports and youth activities in a particular year, was organised at Grand Hyatt on Monday.
Chief guest Mohsen bin Mohammed Al Shaikh, chairman of the Muscat Municipality, presided over the ceremony and handed over the trophies and awards in the presence of Minister of Sports Affairs Sheikh Saad bin Mohammed Al Mardhouf Al Saadi, Under-secretary Sheikh Rashad Al Hinai and the representatives of various clubs and sports associations.

The prestigious awards, which was first launched in 1998, saw as many as 22 clubs vying for top honours, from which top ten were honoured during the ceremony based on a points system. Like in the previous years, the top three clubs were presented with the trophies and cash prizes, and the next seven clubs were presented with cash prizes.
While Seeb Club’s overall achievements helped them retain the prestigious trophy which they won last year, taking their tally of top awards to 11, Saham Club improved on their third-place showing from 2015 awards. The club from Al Batinah region this time won the second place and the Ministry of Sports Affairs silver shield.
In a most improved performance, Irbi clinched the third place and bronze shield. The club had won the fifth place at 2015 awards ceremony.
Besides the coveted His Majesty’s Cup for Youth trophy, Seeb Club were also presented with a cheque of OMR 30,000. Saham took home OMR 28,000 and Ibri received OMR 26,000.

Ahli-Sidab fourth
Meanwhile, Ahi-Sidab won the fourth place and Oman took the fifth place, and they were presented OMR 24,000 and OMR 22,000 respectively.
Al Bashayir and Dhofar took home OMR 20,000 and OMR 18,0000 respectively as sixth and seventh place winners.
Al Salam, Quriyat and Sohar, who finished in eighth, ninth and tenth places respectively, received OMR 16,000, OMR 14,000 and OMR 12,000.
Earlier in his speech, Under-secretary Rashad Al Hinai, who is also the chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the awards, said: “His Majesty’s Cup for Youth awards is reflect the continued interest of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said in sports and youth.”
“These awards are aimed at instilling the spirit of work and perseverance among young people and motivate clubs to achieve their desired goals, and raise the level of their various activities.”
While congratulating the winners, he also lauded the the contribution of various clubs in the field of sports and youth sector.
