Oman rains: 32 rescued by police so far

Muscat: Royal Oman Police (ROP) has rescued 32 people from 27 vehicles caught in flowing wadis, as heavy rains continue to pour across northern parts of the Sultanate.

The ROP said they received rescue calls for 27 vehicles in the Sultanate, with 32 people being rescued. Seven of those were expats: three Emiratis were rescued in Dibba at Musandam; three Egyptians were trapped in a wadi, and one Pakistani was trapped in Wadi Haseem in Izki.

"No deaths recorded, no missing people, and all those rescued were with good health. No injuries have been registered," the ROP added.

Some of the wadis still flowing were Endam in Al-Sharqiyah, Wadi Al-Mahyool in Manah, Wadi Suror in Samail and Wadi Hafeet in Izki.

ROP has deployed extra officers near overflowing wadis and low lying areas for the safety of people.

"Drive carefully as there are rocks on the roads, leave security spaces, don’t risk crossing the valleys, be attention to places of slips, and use the lights," ROP advised drivers.

The Sultanate is currently being affected by a trough of low pressure which is forecast to continue until Monday, according to Oman Meteorology, that has resulted in heavy rains in the country over the past 24 hours.
